Low or high, loose or dense, or all of these things at once: a variety of pile effects are possible depending on the finishing technique. This allows the creation of three-dimensional patterns and the fine adjustment of colour effects. Even the degree of lustre is determined by the fibre.

Loop pile
The loops can be smooth and level, textured or multi-level, e.g. for a tweed look.

Twisted yarns, two-ply
Air-spun yarns
Cut pile
Here the loops are cut open for a fleecy surface – whether single or multi-level. Used for velours carpets or shag-pile effects..

Cut-loop combination
Level or multi-level and tip-sheared, i.e. the tips of the higher loops are sheared off.
